Meeting!

Meeting tomorrow in 331 at 2:00 pm.

I know, big colorful words from Craig... Strange.

Things will be talked about at this meeting. There will be some verbs, and if we're lucky, some nouns. Please attend, I promise it will be a goodish time.

Hello Fellow Swamp Scribes

I have been asked a few times over this past weekend about Fall Ball. I have not heard anything about it yet... So I was hoping to open up a discussion about ideas. Last year we had a great time planning both Fall and Spring events. I was thinking about a few ideas! One, we could have a contest using 3 or 4 popular quotes that people could try and guess where they came from. Then those that answer the most correct could go into a raffle or something like that. Since it supposed to be cold... to fund-raise we could sell a warm beverage.. hot chocolate or coffee would be good. So These are just some ideas to get the ball rolling! Maybe you can come up with something to make this year's Fall Ball just as great as last year!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Contributer copies are in!

You heard right--if you contributed to the anthology, you have a complimentary copy of the book waiting for you. If we're going to have a pow-wow, maybe we could save time to pat each other on the back and even sign each other's copy. This Luke Andrews guy--I don't know about him, but Luke Williams has a copy that will soon be in transit. Let's not forget him!

club leadership

I think maybe we ought to think about having a little officers' meeting.  Seems like we might be able to smooth out a few little communications sissues and such.  No impending disasters that I'm aware of. Just seems like a little chat might not be a bad idea. The new officers for sure, but including the emeriti/ae might not be bad either just to insure a productive transition.
Food for thought.
Power to the poets!

Minutes

I was wondering if we might post a copy of the Tuesday meeting minutes, since I know at least a few of us couldn't make it and do want to know what was going on before next week's meeting.

Either a post here or a group e-mail would be great.

Thanks.

A marathon of corrections! (Arnzen now)

While we're on the subject of corrections, please note that I've corrected the post below to reflect the correct day of Michael Arnzen's visit (it's Tuesday, November 13th).

Anthology Revisions

Well, it has come to my attention that the anthology had a mistake in the name of one of the contributors, Luke Williams. The written submission I received had the name "Luke Andrews" on it so naturally, there was going to be a mistake since 1) Wrong name and 2) I only remember first names of people I meet.

So, the error has been fixed and any ordered copies beginning now will have the revision. I spoke with Mr. Williams and he was cool with it.

Just posting this for everyone's information.

Meeting Conflict for Next Wed. Oct 10th

I have noticed that there is discussion of a Wed meeting next week. I don't believe that will work because we will be having swampside express at that time. Dr Ford has mentioned that we may be able to talk about business after the express! All in favor say "I"! =)
Don't forget about SwampSide Express!! Wednesday, Oct. 10th at 1:30 pm in room 307 (the room with the stage in the library.) All we can perform in 40 minutes!

Hope to see you all there!
Edit: Sorry that my sparkle's were hard on some! I will keep them under a cut!

The Arnzen visit

NOTE: THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED TO FIX THE TYPO REGARDING THE DATE. I really like that poem below. If you haven't read it already, stop reading this and give that one a moment of your time. After that, ponder this: On November 13th, we're going to be hosting Michael Arnzen, who has been making a celebrated career out of writing horror in some very inventive forms, including novels, flash fiction, and his very stylized, darkly humorous "gorelet" poetry. To learn more about him, go to www.gorelets.com. Also since he'll be reading around 11 am on Tuesday, Nov. 13th, would you club people be interested in hosting a breakfast with him before that? Swampscribes did that for Junot Diaz, and it was a nice way to get to know him before the mad rush started. Maybe we could think about this for next meeting. Jim, do we have money?

My God! A Poem?!

Here's something I churned out while hunting around the office for something to keep me awake.  Regardless, you can see that I hate coffee without loads of sugar and creamer.  Sacrifice ensues.

"Bitter Blackness"

"3 hours of sleep.
Alternatives?
No caffenine pills.
Can't afford energy drinks.
Catnaps are impossible.
Forgot the soda.
The kettle is broken.
Only one outlet.
Black coffee.
No creamer, no sugar...
Bitter blackness, a bane.
The sacrifices we make for consciousness."

The possibility of bringing another author to campus

I've been in contact with Ray McNiece about possibly visiting our campus in November. Hence, I'm sharing a link to his web site (http://www.raymcniece.com/) Perhaps we could table this for our next meeting (?) In the meantime, you scribes out there might do some preliminary research and see what you think . . .

Plays...

So, I'm toying around the idea of writing a play. I really like writing dialog, and I think a play would facilitate that quite nicely.
